Fallout 3, probably a great game, just not for me!

by greg on Dec.29, 2008, under Motorcycles

So I finally decided to put aside GH:WT, Rockband 2 and WoW to take some time and dive into Fallout 3.

Initially I was enjoying the game, the opening sequence of events is well done and really sets the scene for a great story. Then the boredom sets in, you make your way out of “Vault 101″ to the outside world. You are told to go to a town nearby called “Megaton” and as soon as you arrive you are left with the same “talk to everyone and get as much info as you can” game that I was NOT expecting.

I guess being a newb to the Fallout series probably didn’t help. I tried to complete some missions, I really did, I just got bored very quickly.

I felt like I was playing Oblivion but in a post-apocalyptic north america. Sure you can walk around and pocket just about anything, but don’t get caught or it pisses off lots of people. The combat system seems ok and the “retro-ish” feel of the environment (a la Bioshock) was neat at first, but it just didn’t make up for the lack of real action that I crave, but that desire probably comes from being an FPSer at heart.

If you are into single-player RPGs with a sci-fi aspect, you will love the game, it just wasn’t for me.

On a very unrelated note, below is a picture of all the Christmas bread my father and I made before the holiday. Its the same recipe/method that my grandfather used for probably 40 years. This was the 4th year my father and I made the bread. Its a sweet flaky bread with cognac soaked raisins (white and dark), chopped walnuts, poppey seed and cinnamon sugar. Mmmmm so gooooood!

This just proves, you need to make sure there are NO breakable or kick-able objects in a given space when trying to show off your mad dance krew skillz!

Christmas and things, shopping sucks!

by greg on Dec.19, 2008, under Motorcycles

Right, so as we all know, its that time of year again.  Yep its CHRISTMAS!, no I will not keep it politically correct or “religiously neutral” or whatever they are saying now.  I celebrate Christmas and it’s my website so there. /end high horse.

Anyway, I got a list from the wife of things she wants… some small, some big.  One of them is actually a new car (lol inorite?).  I haven’t done diddly squat in the shopping department so this weekend I have to dive in to the outlets and mall to find all (some) of the items on the magic list.  We shall see what I come up with.  In the mean time I leave you with a video snip of one of my favorite Christmas movies. (NO NOT A CHRISTMAS STORY)

Feed the Addiction

by ABlindManSees on Dec.11, 2008, under Motorcycles

Smoke? Drinking? Drugs? What’s BlindMan talking about now?

Puzzle Quest. That’s right, the simple looking but insanely addictive game. Did you enjoy Bejeweled? Would you like it to have gone a step-further and incorporate story-line, spells, and direct damage? What if you could combine and RPG with Bejeweled? THAT IS PUZZLE QUEST!

My roomate and I have been playing it non-stop. We’re having so much fun that we keep starting over with new characters just to see what happens if we change our mind on some of the decisions the game forces you to make, ie: If I don’t take the evil sorceror to the tower, what happens?

The best part is, you can play it on a variety of consoles, I personally downloaded it for PS3 and PSP, I know it’s also available for Wii. In the words of Disturbed, SAVOR THE ADDICTION!

Hulu is the DEVIL, or at least a very bad case of heartburn.

by greg on Dec.10, 2008, under Motorcycles

I discovered Hulu.com a few months ago while searching for vids on Google Video.  Initially they only had a few shows and movies but they got my attention right away with the constant influx of oldish.. but excellent movies.  Like Behind Enemy Lines (dude I crashed), And the Karate Kid Trilogy! (Crane Kick to the FACE).

Most recently they have been adding a bunch of classic movies like The Call of the Wild.  A Horribly Filmed/Produced/Edited movie based on a novel by Jack London.  It starred Charlton Heston and a very intelligent German Shepherd named “Buck”.   Anyway, I found the movie to be enjoyable, even if I was forced to stumble through the horrible voice-overs, music and filming.

On a different note, I also use Hulu to watch previous episodes of many of the shows I enjoy like The Office, Terminator, the Sarah Connor Chronicles, and most importantly, SNL.

My one and only gripe is the commercials.  Not the quantity, its quite reasonable being ever 20 mins for a movie and every 8-10 or so for a TV show.  Its the content itself… each show or movie you watch, will have ONE sponsor.  That means, you generally have to watch the same, or nearly same commercial OVER AND OVER.  That makes for a very VERY sad panda.  And I cant possibly see how it helps to sell a product.  Honestly… how many times do I have to see a commercial for the Gillette “Venus” Shaver for women?  Especially while watching Dude Where’s My Car?

In closing I’d like to say this:  Hulu is a great service, and provides excellent entertainment for free.  Just don’t expect a variety of commercials, sure its a small thing to complain about, that’s how I roll!

I made it to lvl 80! Wrath of The Lich King delivers and Naxxramas 2.0 is the BOMB

by greg on Dec.05, 2008, under Motorcycles

Disclaimer:  If you are not familiar with World of Warcraft… you will likely not understand the following article.

Last night I reached my final “ding” in World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King.  The expansion pack drew my interest from the start and kept me playing.  My main character, a Retribution Paladin never dissapointed, I was able to solo 5-6 mobs at a time if I needed to and pvping was a blast.

I made a smart decision and powerleveled my Mining skill up to 375 after I hit lvl 71, it definitely paid off by allowing me to get my epic flying training by the time I was lvl 79.  Ores/gems sell quite well on the auction house since everyone and his brother is trying to level their new professions.

Anywho, last night I was fortunate enough to get into a guild raid of Naxxramas, being that this my first trip back to the necropolis since lvl 60 in my “Vanilla” WoW days, I was expecting much of the same… trash that sucks, too much of it, and annoying boss fights.  I was surprised to see a very “dumbed down” version of Naxx this time around.  The fights were the same, but much MUCH easier.  The trash was brain numbingly easy.  Loot was… meh lots of leather and druid gear.

I did manage to get a nice trinket off of Loatheb, my first piece of lvl 80 gear.  We still have 2 bosses in the DeathKnight wing to kill so that will have to wait till Sunday.

One short comment… it appears we got our FIRST EVER COMMENT! (Outside of ablindmansees who is an author here at The G-Log.  The reader’s name is Jeb, so I’d like to extend a big THANK YOU to Jeb contributing to the site!  ”high five”

Rock Band 2 ZOMG I like it better than World Tour!

by greg on Dec.01, 2008, under Motorcycles

Ok so here is the story:  Friday at work, we had nothing to do… so I brought in my PS3 and “ablindman” brought in Rock Band (just the game).  I happened to have my guitar/mic/drums from GH:WT and we decided to jam it out all day… fast forward to that evening…. I had borrowed Rock Band and was playing it in my den that night… totally getting hooked on the track list, interface, graphics, and the ability to download like a gazillion songs and play them.

First… the graphics are 10 times better than the GH series.  Overdrive (Star Power) is setup in a more intuitive manner. And the track list is far and away better.

Now.. dont get me wrong.. World Tour is a fantastic game… AND the drumset is 10 times better… but it is not without its flaws.

Anywho… moving on to Sunday.  In the paper is a Target circular that shows Rock Band 2 on sale for $44.00  I take the add to my local Wally world and they have the game for 59.99.  Luckily they honor the Target price and I get home with the game for 44bucks.  Cant beat that!

I probably played Rock Band 2 with my daughter for about 3 hrs on Sunday, the game is well worth buying and all my World Tour instruments work perfectly with the game.

The game straight up ROCKS and I find myself wanting to play it more and more! I finally graduated to “Hard” mode on the guitar too :)
